Transfer Guide for Associate in Arts

Program Admission Notes:

WSSU requires transfer students to have at least 24 hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA. These requirements apply to transfer students earning the AA/AS degree at a NCCC.

Students transferring prior to earning 24 hours can review additional admissions criteria here.

Nursing Specific Information:

Satisfactory completion of core curriculum in general education and pre-requisite course requirements

  • A grade of C or better in the pre-requisite nursing science courses and the NUR 2313 - Introduction to Professional Nursing
  • Students are allowed 2 attempts to successfully make a grade of C or better.
  • NUR 2313 - Introduction to Professional Nursing cannot be transferred. Course can only be taken at WSSU. *Applicants applying to the ABSN option, will not need to take this course prior to the nursing program. Accepted ABSN applicants will complete this course during the nursing program.
  • All science courses must have been taken within the past 10 years at the time of submitting the application.
  • Minimum Combined GPA 2.6
  • Minimum Science GPA 2.6 (pre-requisite sciences only)
  • ATI TEAS test score (proficient level preferred)

Additional Information From Winston-Salem State University:

Students applying to the Traditional BSN Option are required to successfully complete the Professional Nursing (NUR 2313) course before starting the TBSN program. Only offered in Fall and Spring semester.

Transfer students begin at WSSU as Pre-Nursing and will complete the NURS 2313 course in their first semester. While course is in progress during first semester, students will apply for the upper-division (Oct. 15 - Jan. 31). During first semester as a Pre-Nursing student, students can anticipate completing any missing prerequisites or coursework for a minor along with the NURS 2313 course.
