Additional Information From NC State University:

The Bachelor of Arts in History offers a broad educational experience that also provides essential skills of critical reading, research, judgment, and perspective. These are skills that employers seek in a wide range of fields. The small department offers a “small college” experience within the wealth of NC State’s diverse offerings and opportunities.

The curriculum offers a great deal of student choice in courses and electives. Flexibility of requirements allows the pursuit of either a diverse experience or a focused, thematic study. Your advisor can help you explore how you might build a thematic interest into your course selection. Examples include our strong course offerings on topics of the law, civil rights and justice, public history, and science and technology in historical context. Beyond traditional courses, there are opportunities for guided and independent research experiences and professional internship. Free electives in the curriculum make it straightforward to complete a Minor in one of the many disciplines at NC State.

Many of our majors are transfer students, from other universities and community colleges. Our advisors will work with you on credit equivalencies and requirements.  In the History major, 18 credit hours (6 courses) of History must be completed at NC State.
