University Studies requires a student to obtain proficiency through the 201-level (equivalent to foreign language 211 at NCCCs) in a language previously studied or the 102-level (equivalent to foreign language 112 at NCCCs) in a second foreign language not previously studied. Students will demonstrate proficiency by completing a course at the 201 level or higher in a language previously studied or at the 102-level in a second foreign language. If you graduated high school 7 or more years before you enrolled at UNCW, an exception applies to you. Then you only need to complete a language course at the 102 level (or higher).
Students are encouraged to build the North Carolina Community College (NCCC) course recommendations below into the associate degree to best prepare for the intended university and major.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington strongly recommends students complete their Associates’ degree prior to transferring to UNCW.
As a Theatre major, you can choose a concentration reflective of your passion, interests and goals. Each concentration includes a range of interdisciplinary courses in theatre studies and practice.
Choose any one of the 3 concentrations available to Theatre majors:
-
Performance
-
Design/Technology
-
Theatre Studies
Regardless of the path you choose as a Theatre major, you will gain critical skills and insight to help you succeed.
Things to consider when choosing your area of concentration:
-
The required core includes performance, design, production, script analysis, and theatre history courses.
-
The senior seminar "capstone" course culminates students' work throughout their undergraduate education to prepare them for show business careers, including audition and interview techniques and portfolio development.
-
A double major is possible.
-
Study abroad programs are available.
A “C” (2.00) is required in each course counted toward the major unless noted otherwise.
Double Majors: Students who have selected a primary major in another discipline should request from the Department of Theatre chair an advisor from the option area they have selected.
