College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

This major requires a world language at the 211-level or higher for graduation. Language requirements may be completed after matriculation to NC State or prior to transfer by completing:

  • Language 111 (prerequisite)
  • Language 112 (prerequisite)
  • Language 211 (required for graduation)

Native or heritage speakers of a language other than English may receive a waiver for this requirement after transfer to NC State. Please consult the World Languages placement page for more information.

Additional Information From NC State University:

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree prepares students for entry-level professional generalist practice with diverse populations. BSW students acquire knowledge, social work professional values, and the skills necessary to respond competently to the service needs of diverse individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations. The program emphasizes human and social well-being, human rights, social and economic justice, and the empowerment of individuals, families, groups, and communities that experience oppression and discrimination. During their final semester, all social work students complete a field internship in a community agency. The final semester of the BSW degree program is comprised of a 420-hour Agency Practicum Internship and a three-hour weekly Practicum Seminar.

Major Residency Requirements: A minimum of 34 credit hours must be completed at NC State’s Department of Social Work’s BSW program, including three practice courses.  (SW 320, SW 405, SW 408), field preparation (SW 480), field work and field seminar (SW 490 and SW 491)

Remaining Courses to be Taken at NC State are based on CAA eligibility and completion of all required and suggested courses in this transfer guide. Remaining courses, hours and time to degree may vary for each student. Major may require an additional semester or summer sessions at NC State.
