Admissions Requirements

  • Transfer applicants must have a cumulative average of a "C" (2.0) GPA or higher.
  • Transfer applicants must have earned 24 or more transferable credit hours.
  • Transfer applicants must not presently be on probation, suspended or expelled from their last or current school of attendance.
  • Some academic programs at NCCU may have admission requirements that exceed those listed above.

Additional Notes:

  1. Math labs are accepted but are not required. If completed, they will count towards electives.
  2. Courses COM 110 and COM 231 are the preferred courses for communications at North Carolina Central University.
  3. Additional course requirements: HEA 110 and PED 110 to satisfy the University's Health and Wellness requirement.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

  1. Transfer students who have earned an AA, AS, or AAS from any accredited US college may instead satisfy the language requirement by completing a "culture" course (Fren 1000, 1020, 3130; Germ 2010, 2104 or Span 1000, 1020, 2010, 2020, 2150.
  2. If transferring prior to completion of the AA, AS, or AAS 2 semesters of foreign language at the college level is required.
  3. Foreign Language labs are accepted but are not required. If completed they will count towards electives.

Additional Information From North Carolina Central University:

  1. Complete a maximum of 124 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or better.  The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU.
  2. Students required to take and pass Praxis I before applying to the Teacher Education program.  Alternatives will be; SAT scores of 1170 or above (or a minimum ACT composite score of 24.)
  3. Specialty Area Exams (Praxis II or NCTEL) Candidates are expected to take and pass PRAXIS II (Spanish world language ETS Test # 5195) prior to Student teaching. Candidates who do not pass the specialty area exam will postpone Student Teaching until such time when the candidate can present passing scores to the program coordinator.
