Transfer Guide for Associate in Arts

Program Admission Notes:

Transfer students typically have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher. To be considered, you must be eligible to return to the last school you attended.

  • UNC Asheville Transfer Common Application or CFNC Application
  • $75 application fee or a fee waiver
  • Official high school transcript if you have fewer than 24 completed college credits at the time of application AND are 20 years and younger. If you were homeschooled, submit a Home School Eligibility Certification. If you are under 21, ensure you satisfy the UNC-System high school course requirements.
  • Official college transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you’ve attended.

Early College Students should complete the First-Year Student application.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

All students are required to complete a college-level foreign language through the second semester, or to place out of the second semester. These courses can be taken at the community college.

Additional Information From UNC Asheville:

HUM 124: Global Humanities: Ancient Worlds and HUM 214: Global Humanities: Premodern Worlds (300-1700) at UNC Asheville will automatically be fulfilled by the Associate Degree and UGETC. However, taking HIS 111 and HIS 112 at the community college will provide foundational knowledge to proceed with the upper-level Humanities classes.

Students will be required to complete 60 hours from 4-year institutions. Students must complete 30 hours of 300-400 level courses as part of the required 120 hours.

Major Requirements 36

One-half of required hours for the major must be completed at UNC Asheville.

  • RELS 398, 492
  • One course chosen from RELS 144, 145, or 146
  • One course from each of the three distribution categories listed below
  • 12 hours of electives chosen from other RELS courses or from the list of approved courses. No more than 8 hours may come from a single department outside of Religious Studies, and at least 20 of the required 36 hours must be at the 300-400 level. A maximum of 8 hours from 100-level courses may be counted toward the major.

Third Level Humanities Course 4

Take one of the following:

  • HUM 324 - The Modern World: Mid-17th to Mid-20th Century
  • LA 378 - Race, Identity, Belonging, and Cultures in the Americas

Fourth Level Humanities Capstone Course 4

Take one of the following

  • HUM 414 - Critical Perspectives on Contemporaneity

Diversity Intensive Courses 6-8

Take two Diversity Intensive courses--one must be DI-R designated. These courses can be found throughout the curriculum, including courses used for the major. LA 378 fulfills both the DI-R and the Third Level Humanities requirements.

Additional Course Requirements 0-20

Take additional courses to reach 120 hours. Student can consider adding a minor if it can be completed as part of the 120 required hours.
