Program Admission Notes:

Students in the joint UNC Asheville-North Carolina State Engineering-Mechatronics program must matriculate into the programs at both institutions. Please carefully review the requirements on the Engineering website.

Transfer students typically have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher. To be considered, you must be eligible to return to the last school you attended.

  • UNC Asheville Transfer Common Application or CFNC Application  
  • $75 application fee or a fee waiver   
  • Official high school transcript if you have fewer than 24 completed college credits at the time of application AND are 20 years and younger. If you were homeschooled, submit a Home School Eligibility Certification. If you are under 21, ensure you satisfy the UNC-System high school course requirements.   
  • Official college transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you’ve attended.

Early College Students should complete the First-Year Student application.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

All students are required to complete a college-level foreign language through the second semester, or to place out of the second semester. These courses can be taken at the community college.

Additional Information From UNC Asheville:

HUM 124: Global Humanities: Ancient Worlds and HUM 214: Global Humanities: Premodern Worlds (300-1700) at UNC Asheville will automatically be fulfilled by the Associate Degree and UGETC. However, taking HIS 111 and HIS 112 at the community college will provide foundational knowledge to proceed with the upper-level Humanities classes.

Students will be required to complete 60 hours from 4-year institutions. Students must complete 30 hours of 300-400 level courses as part of the required 120 hours.

The joint Engineering-Mechatronics program has very specific matriculation requirements. Complete requirements can be found on the Engineering department's website.

One-half of the major requirements must be completed at UNC Asheville.

Note: enrollment in all 300-400 level ECE, JEM, and MAE courses requires students to have matriculated into the program at NC State and declared their major at UNC Asheville. A grade of C- or higher is required in ECE 109, 200, 209, 211, 212, 220, and MAE 201, 206, 208, and 214 to proceed to the next course. A grade of C or higher is required in CHEM 111, 132, MATH 191, 192, and PHYS 221.

Diversity Intensive Courses 6-8

Take two Diversity Intensive courses--one must be DI-R designated. These courses can be found throughout the curriculum, including courses used for the major. LA 378 fulfills both the DI-R and the Third Level Humanities requirements.
