Transfer Guide for Associate in Arts

Program Admission Notes:

Transfer students typically have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher. To be considered, you must be eligible to return to the last school you attended.

  • UNC Asheville Transfer Common Application or CFNC Application
  • $75 application fee or a fee waiver
  • Official high school transcript if you have fewer than 24 completed college credits at the time of application AND are 20 years and younger. If you were homeschooled, submit a Home School Eligibility Certification. If you are under 21, ensure you satisfy the UNC-System high school course requirements.
  • Official college transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you’ve attended.

Early College Students should complete the First-Year Student application.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

All students are required to complete a college-level foreign language through the second semester, or to place out of the second semester. These courses can be taken at the community college.

Additional Information From UNC Asheville:

HUM 124: Global Humanities: Ancient Worlds and HUM 214: Global Humanities: Premodern Worlds (300-1700) at UNC Asheville will automatically be fulfilled by the Associate Degree and UGETC. However, taking HIS 111 and HIS 112 at the community college will provide foundational knowledge to proceed with the upper-level Humanities classes.

Admission to the Major in Music Students wishing admittance to the B.S. degree program in music must pass an instrumental or vocal audition. Audition guidelines are available from the Music Department or at the department’s website.

Students will be required to complete 60 hours from 4-year institutions. Students must complete 30 hours of 300-400 level courses as part of the required 120 hours.

  • MUSC 160, 201, 202, 231, 232, 263, 264, 301, 300, 331, 384, 385, 386, 387, 484, 485, 486, 487
  • 8 hours of music history, including one course from MUSC 348 or 349, and one course from 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348 or 349 (whichever not previously chosen), 350, 357, 366, 367, or 368
  • 4 hours of ensemble chosen from MUSC 113, 114, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 128, 129
  • MATH 167
  • PHYS 131, 231, 310

Students who do not take and pass the placement exam for MUSC 101, 130 and 131 will be required to take these courses prior to enrolling in MUSC 201 and 231.

Students whose level of proficiency does not allow them to start with MUSC 201, 231 and 291 will be required to complete MUSC 101, 130, 131, 191 and/or 192 prior to taking the higher level courses. These demonstrated proficiencies are determined by the music theory placement exam and the audition for the major.

Although students can take several courses at the NCCC that will fulfill lower-level requirements (MUSC 201, 231, music ensembles, MATH 167, PHYS 131, 231), students interested in the Music Tecnology major at UNCA should be aware of prerequisites and audition requirements for many Music classes.  Please visit the department's website for complete information.

Third Level Humanities Course 4

Diversity Intensive Courses 6-8

Take two Diversity Intensive courses--one must be DI-R designated. These courses can be found throughout the curriculum, including courses used for the major. LA 378 fulfills both the DI-R and the Third Level Humanities requirements.

Additional Course Requirements 0-20

Take additional courses to reach 120 hours. Student can consider adding a minor if it can be completed within the required 120 hours.
