Students are required to demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency in a language other than English. Intermediate-level proficiency is demonstrated by successful completion of a 4th-semester language course.
*If your community college does not offer intermediate level foreign language courses, you may need to transfer to App State in the summer to complete the intermediate coursework.
Students are encouraged to build the North Carolina Community College (NCCC) course recommendations below into the associate degree to best prepare for the intended university and major.

Unless you were able to take two intermediate foreign language classes at the community college, it may be best to start the major in the summer by taking the Intermediate Foreign Language 1040 & 1050 (or 1060) in the summer prior to starting in the fall.
A minor in foreign language is required for this major.
Students pursuing this major are required to study abroad for a semester (12 hours).
The focus area must be approved by the faculty advisor and department chair. It must then be filed with the dean's office.
