Program Admission Notes:

To apply to ECU as a transfer student:

  • Complete, or have in progress, a minimum of 24 transferable college-level courses
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for all college-level coursework attempted

Students must meet the following requirements prior to taking 4000-level major courses and most concentration courses:

  • Completion of a minimum 45 s.h.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 on 4.0 scale.
  • Completion of the declaration courses listed below or equivalent course work with a minimum grade of *C- in each and 2.5 GPA over the eight courses:
    • ACCT 2401, ACCT 2521, ECON 2113, ECON 2133, FINA 2244, MATH 1065, MATH 2228 or MATH 2283, and MIS 2223.
    • The NCCCS equivalent courses are ACC 120, ACC 121, ECO 251, ECO 252, BUS 115, MAT 171, MAT 152, and CIS 110.
  • Once enrolled at East Carolina University, a student will be limited to a maximum of two attempts per declaration course.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

For this concentration, students must complete both one semester abroad, and earn 12 semester hours of coursework in a foreign language, levels 1001-2004 (NCCCS levels 111-212).

  • For example, SPA 111, SPA 112, SPA 211, and SPA 212 can be completed at the community college.
  • Language completion is not required for transfer; however, it is highly recommended for this major.

Additional Information From East Carolina University:

All baccalaureate degrees must include courses in Domestic Diversity (1 DD course), Global Diversity (1 GD course), and Writing Intensive (4 WI courses). Completion of an AA or AS waives the General Education requirements at ECU with the exception of

  • the Writing Intensive requirement
  • Domestic and Global Diversity requirements
  • Health-Promotion and Health-Related Physical Activity requirements
  • any foreign language requirement
  • any Cognate, prerequisite, or major specific course requirement

Notes:

  • ENG 111 and 112 satisfy 2 of the 4 WI courses;
    • The Writing Across the Curriculum committee does not recommend taking more than 2 WI courses before transferring, so you don't need worry about the rest of the requirement until at ECU.
  • HIS 111, 112, 131, & 132 taken at a NCCCS after Fall 2018 count as humanities credits at ECU.
  • ECU does not have a transfer credit limit. However, keep in mind to earn a bachelor's degree at ECU, you must
    • complete 50% of your courses at a senior institution
      • approximately 60 semester hours
    • complete 25% of total credit hours needed for degree at ECU
      • approximately 30 semester hours
    • complete 50% of the total hours required in the major at ECU
      • approximately 30 semester hours

Most majors at ECU require 120 semester hours; additional electives or credits may be needed to complete this major.

Choose 12 sh of foreign language from a chosen world region: Africa, Asia, Europe, or South America. 12

In addition to a minimum of one semester abroad, enrolled in an approved academic program with a focal world region, students must attain competency in a second language. Students may prove competency by:

  •     Completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework (GPA 2.5 or higher) in a foreign language (1001 - 2004) and demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language by scoring an average of Intermediate-Mid, as determined by the the Department of Management Chair or the International Business Program Coordinator based on test scores on the AAPPL Test (AAPPL stands for ACTFL Assessment of Performance towards Proficiency in Languages).

  •     Students who demonstrate a language proficiency (based on test scores on the AAPPL) without taking 12 hours of foreign languages, must complete 12 hours of international coursework during required study abroad as approved by the Department of Management Chair or the International Business Program Coordinator.
