Admissions Requirements

  • Transfer applicants must have a cumulative average of a "C" (2.0) GPA or higher.
  • Transfer applicants must have earned 24 or more transferable credit hours.
  • Transfer applicants must not presently be on probation, suspended or expelled from their last or current school of attendance.
  • Some academic programs at NCCU may have admission requirements that exceed those listed above.

Additional Notes:

  1. Math labs are accepted but are not required. If completed, they will count towards electives.
  2. Courses COM 110 and COM 231 are the preferred courses for communications at North Carolina Central University.
  3. Additional course requirements: HEA 110 and PED 110 to satisfy the University's Health and Wellness requirement.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

  1. Transfer students who have earned an AA, AS, or AAS from any accredited US college may instead satisfy the language requirement by completing a "culture" course (Fren 1000, 10200, 3130; Germ 2010, 2104 or Span 1000, 1020, 2010, 2020, 2150.
  2. If transferring prior to completion of the AA, AS, or AAS 2 semesters of foreign language at the college level is required.
  3. Foreign Language labs are accepted but are not required. If completed they will count towards electives.

Additional Information From North Carolina Central University:

  1. NCTRC Required Courses – (courses are fulfilled by GEC, Recreation Administration Program, and RT concentration requirements) Students who wish to major in the Recreation Administration Program must have an overall grade point average of 2.25 and apply to be admitted into the program. Applicants must be at least a sophomore and have completed the following courses: RECR 1000, RECR 2120, RECR 2300, and one additional 2000 level RECR course with a GPA average of 2.5 or better.
  2. The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) establishes the requirements for certification in Recreational Therapy; requirements include the successful completion of BIOL1300, BIOL1610, PSY2100, PSY3100, PSY3310, six credit hours of Human/Social Science Electives, in addition to six Recreational Therapy concentration courses plus a 14 week, 560 hour internship under the supervision of a CTRS.
  3. Students are required to be senior status, have permission of their advisor, and have completed RECR 4625 prior to enrolling in the
  4. RECR 4635. Students must be in good standing and have passed all required courses with a C or better prior to internship placement.
