Transfer Guide for Associate in Arts

Program Admission Notes:

NC State Undergraduate Admissions employs a holistic approach in reviewing transfer students’ applications and considers a range of accomplishments and qualifications. Recommended courses listed, and GPA recommendations, are departmental recommendations and are not minimum requirements for transfer admissions.

Recommendations:

  • 2.7 or higher cumulative GPA
  • ENG 111 & ENG 112
  • MAT 171 or higher math course
  • Completion of a 10-piece portfolio and creative essay

Portfolio should contain the following:

  • Visual Communication Skills: Work should express specific ideas, attitudes, events, or stories.
  •  Serial or Sequential Work: Series of themed works; various iterations of the same idea; same subject executed in different mediums.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Evidence of problem solving for larger or smaller issues

The Bachelor’s of Graphic and Experience Design requires 8 semesters of studio AFTER transfer which typically takes 4 years of enrollment at NC State, regardless of the number of transfer credits or completion of an associate degree. The College of Design strongly recommends that you consult the program transfer applicant guidelines after reviewing this document.

The Bachelor’s of Graphic and Experience Design requires 8 semesters of studio AFTER transfer which typically takes 4 years of enrollment at NCState, regardless of the number of transfer credits or completion of an associate degree. Fall admission only. Requires online portfolio and essay. Major requires a 6-hour international or Study Abroad Experience. 

Remaining Courses to be Taken at NC State are based on CAA eligibility and completion of all required and suggested courses in this transfer guide. Remaining courses, hours and time to degree may vary for each student. Unless otherwise noted, all courses are required major courses and will not be part of the General Education fulfillment awarded by associate degree transfer and CAA eligibility.
