Transfer Guide for Associate in Arts

2025-2026

Delivery Method: On-Campus

Program Admission Notes:

To apply to ECU as a transfer student:

  • Complete, or have in progress, a minimum of 24 transferable college-level courses
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for all college-level coursework attempted

This guide has been developed for the traditional BSN pathway at ECU. Information related to alternative pathways may be found at the bottom of this section.

Students planning to transfer to ECU to pursue the traditional BSN pathway must complete two application and admission processes

  1. ECU Transfer Application & Admission
    • Click HERE for current information on applying to ECU as a transfer student.
  2. BSN Application & Admission
    • Click HERE for current eligibility requirements, instructions, and application deadlines.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • All students pursuing the traditional BSN pathway at ECU are admitted to the university as Intended Nursing majors. Students apply to the BSN program in the final semester of required general education and prerequisite courses.
    • For this reason, transfer students are highly encouraged to complete the full AA degree requirements outlined here prior to transferring if possible. If transferring early, please reach out to the advising center for guidance on what course sequencing you should prioritize at the community college.
  • Once a student has successfully gained admission to nursing school they officially declare the major.
  • Admission to the traditional BSN pathway at ECU is competitive and based on a student's cumulative admission GPA, points earned in the ranking formula, and average score on the HESI A2 exam.
    • The current ranking formula for the traditional BSN pathway is published on the College of Nursing's website (click HERE).
  • The college uses all college grades from all colleges attended when calculating GPA for purposes of program admission. While a 2.75 cumulative admission GPA is the minimum required to apply, historically it is not a competitive GPA for admission.
  • Up to 130 students are admitted every fall and spring semester (260 maximum total per year) and on average, the college receives 200-225 applications per admission cycle. However, every admission cycle is unique.
  • A student may apply a maximum of three times to the traditional BSN pathway. If not admitted, alternative BSN pathways at ECU may be considered if the student meets eligibility criteria to apply and is competitive for admission.
  • Transfer students will develop a partnership with their Academic Advisor who assists them with course registration planning and educates them on graduation requirements, strategies for becoming a competitive applicant for admission, and resources for success.
  • Through the advising process, all students are expected to take ownership of their education by using ECU advising systems and tools, learning their graduation requirements, abiding by university and college policies and procedures, following recommendations for success, and advocating for themselves by utilizing appropriate resources as needed.

Questions not addressed in this transfer guide or within the online links provided may be emailed to CONAdvising@ecu.edu.

Alternative ECU BSN Pathways
