Program Admission Notes:

This is a co-enrollment program with Wilkes Community College. Students will be taking classes at Appalachian and Wilkes Community College.

*Students with less than a 2.25 will be reviewed holistically. Please speak to your transfer admissions counselor or call the Transfer Admissions & Engagement office with questions.

Foundations of American Democracy (FAD):

  • FAD is a graduation requirement for all students entering any UNC institution on or after July 1, 2025, who are seeking a baccalaureate degree.
  • Waiver: Students transferring to App State with 60+ college credit hours or an AA or AS degree will have the FAD requirement waived.
  • Alternative Courses: If you plan to transfer to App State without meeting any of the above criteria, you can fulfill the FAD requirement by taking one of these courses at a North Carolina Community College: HIS 131, HIS 132, POL 120, or SOC 220

Early College: Early college students are considered First Year students (not Transfers) and should apply using the Common App.

Additional Information From Appalachian State University:

Please note: EDU 216 will only transfer as EDU 2100 (required course) if the associate degree is completed. If students plan on transferring prior to degree completion, they should not take EDU 216.

To be admitted to the Reich College of Education for teacher education, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Passing PRAXIS Core test or being exempted (based on SAT or ACT scores)
  • A current Criminal Background Check (within 6 months of your application to teacher education)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • 30 semester hours or more
  • A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in RC 1000, EDU 2000 & EDU 2100
