Transfer Guide for Associate in Arts in Teacher Prep

Program Admission Notes:

Admission into UNC Charlotte and Cato College of Education:

  • 24 transferable credit hours
  • 2.0 cumulative college GPA
  • Must be in good academic standing at most recently attended institution

Admission into upper division courses:

All new undergraduate students arrive at the Cato College of Education as pre-majors. In order to be admitted to Teacher Education and begin major coursework, the following requirements must be met:

  • C or better in EDU 216 (EDUC 1511)  and EDU 221 (SPED 2100)
  • 30 credit hours
  • GPA of 2.7 or higher; students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher to remain in good standing in their major
  • Passing scores on the Praxis Core or exempting SAT/ACT scores
  • A completed application on file in TEAL and satisfactory results from a criminal background check (run at the time of application)

Students completing the AATP are encouraged to begin courses at Charlotte in Summer I to allow for completion of SPED 221 (EDU 221) due to not being available within this degree.

Additional Information From UNC Charlotte:

Admission from lower-division (Pre-Education) to upper-division (declaring your intended Education major) requires at least 30 credit hours, a 2.7 GPA, passing scores on the Praxis Core exam or an exempting SAT/ACT scores, a "C" or better in EDU 216 Foundations of Education and EDU 221 Children with Exceptionalities, a completed application in the TEAL Office, and satisfactory results on a criminal background check (run at the time of applying).

Students who wish to stay on a two year plan, once transferring to UNC Charlotte, should complete all major specific courses at their community college with SPED 2100 at UNC Charlotte in the Summer I term, prior to starting upper division in the fall.
