Program Admission Notes:

Transfer students typically have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher. To be considered, you must be eligible to return to the last school you attended.

UNC Asheville Transfer Common Application or CFNC Application $75 application fee or a fee waiver Official high school transcript if you have fewer than 24 completed college credits at the time of application AND are 20 years and younger. If you were homeschooled, submit a Home School Eligibility Certification. If you are under 21, ensure you satisfy the UNC-System high school course requirements. Official college transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you’ve attended. Early College Students should complete the First-Year Student application.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

All students are required to complete a college-level foreign language fulfilled by any level of a second language or placement exam. These courses can be taken at the community college.

Additional Information From UNC Asheville:

Students will be required to complete 60 hours from 4-year institutions. Students must complete 30 hours of 300-400 level courses as part of the required 120 hours.

Major Requirements 61

One-half of the required ASTR courses must be completed at UNC Asheville. Remaining University courses will depend upon NCCC courses taken. The plan is based on students beginning their Math studies with Calculus I. If MAT 171 and MAT 172 are required, additional time and hours to degree may be needed. 

  • ASTR 112, 113, 202, 203, 320, 231, 323, 420, 301 or 430, PHYS 221, 222, 326, 331, 132, 310 or 323 or 325. ASTR 499 is recommended. 
  • Required courses outside the major - MATH 191, 192, 291; MATH 365 or CSCI 183 or STAT 225
  • Other departmental requirements - Major competency is demonstrated through successful completion of ASTR 420
Senior Year Seminar 3-4
