Interior Design Transfer Policy

To apply to East Carolina University as a transfer student, applicants must:

  • Have completed or be currently enrolled in at least 24 transferable college-level credit hours
  • Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all college-level coursework

Declaring the Interior Design Concentration

Students interested in pursuing the Interior Design concentration must meet the following criteria before formal admission into the professional program:

  • Completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours (including transfer credits)
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B average) or higher
  • Successful completion of the following courses (or approved equivalents):
  • IDSN 1180 – Interior Design Studio I
  • IDSN 1181 – Interior Design Studio II
  • IDSN 1201 – Drafting for Interior Design
  • IDSN 1202 – Visual Presentation for Interior Design
  • A proficiency rating in the department’s portfolio review
  • Official acceptance into the professional-level course sequence

These expectations ensure students enter the program with a strong academic foundation and a demonstrated ability to succeed in a competitive design environment.

To remain in good standing, students must maintain a minimum grade of C (2.5) or better in all IDSN major courses. This requirement reflects the rigor of the discipline and aligns with the performance standards expected by the design industry.
