Program Admission Notes:

Transfer students should apply to Western Carolina University at applynow.wcu.edu. A minimum 2.2 GPA is required for consideration, however, this does not guarantee admission. We recommend that you aim for an average cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on 12+ hours of college credit for competitiveness with other incoming transfer applicants.

The BFA in Theater: Acting is competitive and requires an application to be admitted to the program. Recommend transferring after 1st year to stay on target or plan for extra time at WCU.

Admission to the University does not guarantee admission in to the School of Stage and Screen.

The BFA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Acting for Stage and Screen is a competitive, audition only program of study.  True to the working life of a crossover actor, Acting for Stage and Screen incorporates course and production work in both stage and filmic acting techniques.  Moving from beginning to advanced level coursework, the training utilizes a myriad of classic and contemporary theories and styles.  Students studying Acting for Stage and Screen at WCU will take four primary acting courses for the stage, four acting courses for camera, and a handful of complimentary courses in movement, voice, and analysis, and will consistently move from roles in productions of both plays and films, honing their craft in both. Entrance in to the BFA in Theatre, Acting is competitive and is by admission/interview only.

For acceptance into the BFA program in Acting for Stage and Screen, Musical Theatre, or Entertainment Design, and Technology, students must be extended an invitation into the program after a live audition or interview process. Students are then evaluated artistically and academically each year through the Program Continuation Policy.

A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required for graduation with the BFA degree.

Admission requirements include the standard undergraduate admissions process for the University as well as a live audition or interview through the School of Stage and Screen.

This degree is for students interested in acting in both the theatre and film.

  • A short essay explaining why you want to major in acting
  • Monologue Videos - Perform two monologues, one contemporary (this can be from a play or film) and one from a style of your choosing (contemporary, classical, etc). Each monologue should be approx. 1 min in length. Please shoot one of the monologues in a close up or medium close up.
  • Dance video (optional)
