Additional Information From Winston-Salem State University:

This Transfer Guide applies to the Licensure concentration. Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) also offers three additional concentration options for this major (see below). Course recommendations at North Carolina Community College System (NCCC) are the same for all concentrations; however, the required coursework at WSSU will vary by concentration. Students interested in one of the other concentrations are encouraged to contact WSSU to learn more. Here is a list of the additional concentrations:

  • Behavioral Health
  • Leadership and Recreation (non-licensure)
  • Honors

Students considering graduate school will find this Licensure track to be beneficial. Students can expect guidance and support from WSSU staff should they choose to explore graduate studies in a related field.

Honors Concentration - Admission Criteria

  1. Complete TRC 2312 - Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation with a grade of B or higher
  2. A cumulative GPA of 3.4
  3. No grade lower than a B in any TR courses (possible one exception with a strong recommendation by a faculty member)
  4. Identification of a faculty mentor and a potential area of research
  5. Recommendation by the Therapeutic Recreation Honors committee, who will evaluate each applicant on academic performance and professional goals.

All students are required to obtain CPR certification as part of the Licensure requirements. (Can be completed outside of the academic setting)
