Transfer Guide for Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts

Admission to UNC Charlotte:

  • 24 transferable credit hours
  • 2.0 cumulative college GPA
  • Must be in good academic standing at most recently attended institution

Admission to Graphic Design is competitive and requires an additional application with digital portfolio submission.

Upon gaining general admission to the university, students will be able to complete the Art Entrance Portfolio application (please note the specific Graphic Design portfolio requirements listed on the link below)

Graphic Design only allows admission starting in the fall semester - for Fall 2027, transfer students should plan to apply to the University by November 2026 to be able to submit the Art Entrance Portfolio application by the early Spring 2027 deadline.

College Level Foreign Language Requirements:

Students in this major are required to demonstrate proficiency in the language of their choice through the 111 (1201) level.  Proficiency can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:

  • Completing the language 111 course at their community college, or UNC Charlotte
  • Completing three years of the same foreign language in high school through level three
  • Achieving a satisfactory score on the foreign languages placement test (in Spanish, French, or German)

Three studio courses are required at the 3000- or 4000- level. These courses have prerequisites at the 2000- level (or above). In addition to regular studio courses from any concentration area: ARTA, ARTC, ARTD, ARTF, ARTL, ARTP, ARTR, ARTT, and ARTZ, students may also choose an internship, or independent study. Art History and Art Education courses do not count towards these requirements.
